Bishop Lennon appointed Fr. Steve Breck to serve as pastor of St. Mary Magdalene which commenced on May 2, 2016.

Fr. Steve Breck was ordained a priest on May 20th, 2000.  Prior to coming to Saint Mary Magdalene, Fr. Steve served as a parochial vicar at Saint John Neumann, Saint Charles Borromeo, Saint Raphael, and Saint Hilary Parish.  Fr. Steve’s home parish is Saint Francis Xavier in Medina.   He feels extremely blessed to have had Fr. Mark Hollis as pastor and both Fr. Ron Wearsch and Fr. Stephen Kaminski as parochial vicars at Saint Francis Xavier. 

Currently, Fr. Steve’s mom lives in Wadsworth, Ohio.  His dad went home to God in February of 2011 after battling a long illness.  Fr. Steve is the youngest of seven children.  He has four older brothers and two older sisters.  Most of his siblings live in Northeast Ohio.  One brother lives near Indianapolis and in the Spring of 2013 his brother Mark went home to God to be with his dad.  Fr. Steve looks forward being a member of the parish family of Saint Mary Magdalene and is very happy to serve as Pastor.

Permanent Deacon


Deacon Carl has been an ordained Permanent Deacon in the Diocese of Cleveland since 1998.  He has been a parishioner for over 36 years along with his wife Mary Ellen.

His ministry includes:

  • Coordination of parish Stewardship efforts
  • Updating Parishioner database
  • Coordinating Stephen Ministry program
  • Visiting the sick, homebound and imprisoned
  • Coordination of RCIA and Infant baptismal program
  • Provides adult education spiritual growth activities
  • Coordinates Project Hope for the homeless dinner project

Carl took part in the 3 year formation program for Deacons at St. Mary Seminary. He holds a Bachelors degree in Business Administration from John Carroll University and an MBA from Baldwin Wallace.  He has completed I unit of Clinical Pastoral Education at St. Vincent Charity Hospital and received a certification in spiritual direction from the Ignatian Spirituality Institute at John Carroll University. 



Mrs. Mary Hrich

Director of Liturgy and Music


Mary started part time at SMM in 1999, and moved to full time in 2009.

Her ministry includes:

  • Directing Liturgical & Music Ministry
  • Composing media for communications, including emails, newsletters, worship aids, electronic bulletin board, etc.
  • Assisting with administration of the parish website
  • Providing workshops, speaking engagements, and musical support as requested by the Diocese of Cleveland, the National Association of Pastoral Musicians, and the American Guild of Organists
  • Co-Founder of Sustaining the Journey, a ministry resource for Churches, Ministers, and Liturgical Musicians across Northern Ohio and Western Pennsylvania
  • Board Member of the Cleveland Chapter of the National Association of Pastoral Musicians (NPM) www,

Mary has been serving the Diocese of Cleveland as a musician and liturgical minister since 1984. She graduated with honors from John Carroll University with a BS in Psychology and a minor in Theology.

Sacramental Preparation and Bereavement Ministry


Mary Lou has been part of the SMM community for her entire adult life.

Her ministry includes:

  • Helping to prepare candidates for Confirmation & Eucharist
  • Meeting with funeral families to assist them with planning and to offer grief support
  • Coordinating Bereavement ministry, outreach to the sick and homebound, and birthday and special occasion greeting cards
  • Serving as retreat speaker and providing catechesis and support for faith formation across the Diocese of Cleveland

Mary Lou has dedicated her life to the parish and to the greater Church – both with her husband Jim, and since his passing several years ago. A degreed teacher, Mary Lou is a nationally recognized inspirational and educational speaker.

Mary Ellen and her husband Deacon Carl have been members of SMM since 1980.  They have 3 sons, all of whom attended SMM School. She has one wonderful Granddaughter! Being  formally employed by the parish since 2000, and working as Parish Pastoral Secretary and Bookkeeper, she assists in a variety of ways in the parish.  She does not consider her work at SMM as a “job” but as a “life”.

Jim and his wife Eve have been members of SMM since 1978.  Jim has a Business Degree from Cleveland State University and an MBA from Baldwin Wallace.  He has been a member of SMM Finance Council for 18 years.

Coletta-DiCelloColetta DiCello

Bulletin Editor and School Liaison


Coletta and her husband John became parishioners at SMM in 1976.  They raised their four children here at SMM and boast of having 12 grandchildren.

Coletta began working at St. Mary Magdalene over 30 years ago in the School during the 1984-85 school year and continued until the school closed in 2013.  At that point she continued her employment at SMM joining the staff in the parish office on a part-time basis – 3 days a week.

Her area of responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Bulletin Editor
  • Schedule Memorial Masses
  • Powerpoint on TV in Gathering Area
  • Liaison with area Catholic Schools and the SMM families enrolled
  • General SMM office, phones, answer questions & provide information
