Sarah grew up in the St. Mary Magdalene Parish and has been an active member for many years. From volunteering at our annual parish festival in the kid’s tent when she was just a kid herself to being a teacher at Vacation Bible School for ten years. Practicing her faith in her everyday life was second nature to her and the reason she is who she is today.
Sarah’s faith development began at a young age, she attended St. Mary Magdalene School from preschool to eighth grade. Then, as she ventured off into high school at North High in Eastlake, she knew she could still be close with God and her peers through attending Teens Growing in Faith (T.G.I.F). While being an active member of this group she was able to talk about her faith with other high school students and really get to know who she was as a Catholic and who God was in her life.
Sarah has always grown up with strong morals and values and knew that as she went off into college at Kent State University, she didn’t want to forget them. So doing what she loves, she got involved! Sarah started attending mass at the Newman Center on campus, became a Eucharistic Minister there and joined the Catholic Student Association. She knew that she wanted to carry out her faith outside of mass and show who she was and who God was through what she did. By her junior year, she was President of the CSA and was leading many faith-filled activities and helped to plan retreats and outreach programs for the group. As she graduated from KSU with her Bachelor’s of Science degree in Early Childhood Education she knew that she wanted to continue her role as a Catholic by helping and teaching others.
Since Sarah has graduated, she has taught preschool to special needs students at Broadmoor Summer Camp through New Avenues to Independence for two years and is currently a substitute teacher in several local school districts. She has learned many things in life, but she says the greatest and most important saying that she will take with her wherever she goes is to “Preach the Gospel at all times. Use words if necessary,” by St. Francis of Assisi. So, as she begins this new position as the Assistant Youth Coordinator, she knows she will do her best to help our teens be involved in their faith through Lake Life Teen and make their faith alive in their everyday life.
